LA RIOJA ALTA 890 GRAN RESERVA 2010

£188.95

Combining tradition and state-of-the-art technology, La Rioja Alta, S.A. is an iconic, world-class producer of classically-styled Reserva and Gran Reserva wines which undergo considerable cask-ageing in order to achieve La Rioja Alta S.A.'s renowned style.

2010 is regarded as one of the best of the 21st century. Very good weather, ensuring excellent conditions right up to the end of the cycle, produced low yields. This resulted in medium-sized, very loose bunches with small berries. Additionally, frequent days with sunny mornings and cool nights helped the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. One of the most Atlantic vintages of recent years, it has resulted in wines of great freshness and complexity, ideal for long ageing. Officially rated as Excellent.

After gentle destemming and crushing, the musts underwent alcoholic fermentation for 18 days in tank. The Tempranillo and Mazuelo grapes were blended in the vineyard and then co-fermented, while Graciano was vinified separately. Malolactic conversion occurred naturally and lasted four months. After stabilisation over the winter, the best batches were selected and were left to rest in barrels for six years with 10 traditional rackings. To preserve the aromatic intensity, this wine was not filtered before bottling. Bottle-aged for six years, this is only made in very special years.

Classic, timeless Rioja full of aromatic nuances of black plum compote, tobacco leaf, spice and chocolate enveloping a pure, velvety palate.
