INSOGLIO DEL CINGHIALE, CAMPO DI SASSO, IGT TOSCANA
Insoglio di Cinghiale, comes from three plots which comprise Campo di Sasso, west of the road which runs between Bolgheri and Bibbona in coastal Maremma, Tuscany. Sandy soils and the warmth of the lower slopes here make for a lovely, early-drinking style which and an upbeat expression of fresh fruit. It is at its best relatively young, when it offers a wonderful array of vibrant aromatics, set within a silky frame.
This is a blend based on ripe, peppery Syrah, 38%, blended with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot...it just works on this sandy/clay soil. This presents a wonderfully seductive array of dark fruit, blackberry and dark cherry, suffused with violets and pepper and a touch of balsamic sweetness. Beautifully balanced, this is impeccable with game dishes yet NB, slightly chilled, this makes a good, summery picnic and barbecue wine.
